They did not, however,... specifically mention Tokyo's recent historical denials during their joint news conference. Choi You-sun has more. Presidents Park and Xi's message for North Korea Thursday was certainly a step up from last year's use of the phrase "grave threat" regarding the North's nuclear program. "President Xi and I reaffirmed our firm opposition to nuclear arms development on the Korean peninsula, and that only denuclearizing the peninsula and maintaining peace and stability in the region would benefit the six-party talks nations." Emphasizing that the denuclearization of North Korea should be achieved through the now-suspended six-party talks involving the two Koreas,... Presidents Park and Xi added that the right conditions must be met before reviving the dialogue. This reflects Seoul's position that Pyongyang first needs to show its commitment to denuclearize. The Chinese leader also positively assessed President Park's policy of trust-building and having more humanitarian exchanges with North Korea. "We have reaffirmed that the trust-building process on the Korean peninsula would establish trust between the two Koreas, improve inter-Korean ties and lay the foundation for sustainable peace on the peninsula." As for Seoul-Beijing ties, the two leaders assessed their strategic cooperative partnership, and agreed to take it to the next level by holding regular political and security meetings and increasing people-to-people exchanges. On the economic front, Presidents Park and Xi agreed to work toward concluding their free trade negotiations by the year's end, and to open their currency trade markets to spur bilateral trade and investments. "Attention now shifts to how Pyongyang will react to Seoul and Beijing's firm opposition to its nuclear ambitions. While very cautious to criticize its traditional ally, experts suggest North Korea may turn away from China for now and focus on improving ties with Japan and Russia. Choi You-sun, Arirang News."

It's hoped the project will promote the country's development. STORYLINE: This is an English class at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, called PUST for short. A British teacher is encouraging North Korean students to look at different foreign consumer goods and evaluate their packaging and appeal. Foreign academics from a variety of countries including America, Canada and Australia teach North Koreans here; living, working, eating and sleeping on the same campus as the North Korean students. It's very different to the normal routine in North Korea, where every effort is made to keep foreigners apart from local Koreans. In slightly awkward English, 23 year-old student So Myong Jin tries to express the appeal of studying in an international environment: "I learned many foreign cultures and manners, so I can have a relationship with foreigners and native speakers according to familiar natures, and cultures, and manners," Myong Jin says. As North Korea continues to threaten the international community with a nuclear test and ballistic missile launch, the U.S. says it′s open to holding denuclearization talks in any location, including Pyongyang. Kim Hyun-bin has our top story. The U.S. special representative for North Korea policy says that Washington is genuinely interested in holding talks with Pyongyang to restart the long-stalled six-party denuclearization talks and is willing to meet in any location, including Pyongyang. Sung Kim told Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency in an exclusive interview Saturday that the North should come back to the negotiating table and honor its previous commitment to give up its nuclear program. He added that the main focus of talks with Pyongyang would be to hear that they are committed to denuclearization, which in turn would go a long way toward restarting the six-party talks. It is highly unusual for a U.S. official to express a willingness to hold talks in Pyongyang. The move is part of recent efforts by the six-party members to re-engage with the regime and prevent it from launching further provocations. The six-party talks which involve the two Koreas, the U.S., ChinaRussia and Japan have been stalled since 2008. North Korea wants an unconditional resumption of negotiations, while the U.S wants Pyongyang to first show it is sincere about denuclearization before formal negotiations can resume. The U.S. says, however, it is open to exploratory talks with Pyongyang without any preconditions, but the communist regime has thus far shown no interest in talks. Kim′s comments come after North Korea hinted earlier this week that it could launch a long-range rocket or conduct a nuclear test, which would be in violation of the UN Security Council resolutions against it. Washington and Seoul both warned Pyongyang that it will slap stronger sanctions on the communist regime if it forges ahead with the plan. Kim Hyun-bin, Arirang News.
